LiveWell Westwood's "Walking Wednesday" program to get a college boost

In early April, a team of college juniors from Metro State started work with LiveWell Westwood and three elementary schools to bolster their "Walking Wednesday" program. The team is participating in The Apprentice Challenge at Metro State - a semester-long student competition that helps build skills in community outreach, business engagement, communication and team work. At the end of the semester, one student will be chosen as the "Apprentice," and will be awarded a full scholarship for senior-year tuition and a paid internship.

Jointly sponsored by LiveWell Colorado, Kaiser Permanente and The Colorado Health Foundation, this four-week challenge will direct students to develop an outreach and engagement plan to increase participation by students and their families and educate them about the importance of physical activity. Students will be expected to educate students, parents, teachers and administrators at the three elementary schools, work with businesses to solicit donated gifts and demonstrate increased participation over last year. A team of representatives from LiveWell Westwood, Kaiser and the Foundation will serve as judges for this challenge.
