In 2005, a very well connected group of individuals and organizations came together around a common goal to advance healthy eating and active living in Wheat Ridge. Together this group secured a planning grant and formed the Thriving Wheat Ridge Partnership (now LiveWell Wheat Ridge-LWWR), a dedicated planning group, which includes representatives from 8 key organizations in Wheat Ridge. That group has remained very stable with the organizations choosing to continue to contribute time to the initiative. The number of people and organizations we partner with has expanded geometrically as we continue to find others who share the same vision we have for the Wheat Ridge and Edgewater communities. As the health statistics in the realm of obesity and certain chronic diseases worsen, as health care costs rise, as people have to share more of the economic burden for health care and as the face of obesity gets younger, we are drawing more and more partners who have some big ideas that will make Wheat Ridge and Edgewater the vibrant and sustainable communities they can be.
The Initiative strives to utilize the socio-ecological model in its focus of strategies. We promote and fund evidence and population based strategies. Our ultimate goal is to fund strategies that are building community capacity and become a sustainable feature.
