LiveWell Montezuma

Montezuma County is the southwestern most county in the state of Colorado. With a total area of 2,040 square miles, Montezuma County is home to Mesa Verde National Park, McPhee Reservoir, the second largest reservoir in Colorado, and many other outdoor recreational opportunities. Topographically, Montezuma County has a range in elevation of 6000 feet to more than 14,000 feet, incorporating the Colorado Plateau Desert to the Alpine Tundra. It is home to the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe with 1/3 of the county incorporating tribal land. It is primarily an agricultural community with a low socioeconomic status.  

According to various studies, the following risk factors were identified for this community:

  • 16.1% of individuals do not exercise
  • 84.4% consume few fruits and vegetables
  • 17.8% are obese
  • 22.5% smoke
  • Almost 8% have diabetes, with an approximate 16% incidence in the Native American population.

LiveWell Montezuma will look for opportunities and implement strategies that will contribute to a healthier and more productive populous.
