LiveWell Longmont

In August 2007, the Longmont community was selected to participate in the YMCA’s national Activate America initiative and partnership with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), as one of 18 communities nationwide deemed a YMCA/CDC Pioneering Healthier Communities (PHC). The initiative has the same goals and approach as LiveWell Colorado: developing a collaborative and inclusive process for communities to come together to make increased physical activity and improved nutrition an accessible choice for all. This ground work led to the Longmont community being awarded a Planning and Mobilization Grant through LiveWell Colorado. As part of this award, the steering committee participated in a strategic planning process that identified the vision, the mission as well as five year goals based on the data collected through a variety of sources (Kaiser Permanente, Longmont Economic Council, St. Vrain Valley School District, IVR, BRFSS, Boulder County, etc.). Specific outcomes developed through the Mobilization and Planning grant were the creation of the vision, mission and goals.
